Performance of the lubricant in the bearing industry is a major issue – how long and how well it can minimize friction to prevent bearing wear. Nye offers an extensive collection of bearing oils and greases. Each is designed to provide an adequate film of lubricant throughout a range of operating temperatures, speeds and loads, and to resist oxidation, thermal breakdown, and evaporation. Some of Nye’s most popular bearing lubricants are listed below. Note: For precision bearing applications, Nye’s ultrafiltration service of bearing oils and greases is recommended. Contact a Nye engineer for additional information.

Greases for Rolling Element BearingsQuality rolling element bearing greases function over a wide temperature range; offer thermooxidative stability and low volatility; and have base oils that retain the viscosity needed to provide an adequate lubricant film throughout a specified range of operating temperatures, speeds and loads. Using these general characteristics as the yardstick for selecting a lubricant will help ensure high performance and long life for rolling element bearing applications.
Impregnating Oils for Sintered BearingsSintered powdered metal or “porous” bearings, which are impregnated with lubricating oil through a vacuum process, are generally used as an alternative to expensive rolling element bearings. In addition to impregnation, a small reservoir, usually an oil-soaked felt pad, is sometimes placed adjacent to the bearing to augment oil supply and thus extend bearing life.
