TECHNICAL HELP
From zero gravity to virtual reality, Pennzane® Fluids Technology provides the core of lubrication systems for the most advanced and evolving technologies including space mechanisms, vacuum manufacturing of semiconductors, computer hard drives and magnetic disks.
Developed by Shell Global Solutions and now distributed worldwide exclusively by Nye Lubricants as a family of Pennzane-based oils and greases in a range of viscosities, for use in environments requiring low volatility, wide viscosity range, and performance additive flexibility. Nye was the first manufacturer to formulate and commercialize lubricants with Pennzane fluids and since the 1990s has worked with NASA scientists to test the properties of Pennzane fluids.

Our Products
Nye Lubricants has been working with Pennzane® Fluids since their invention and uses all three fluids, X1000, X2000 and X3000, to produce a family of multiply-alkylated cyclopentane oils and greases. Each lubricant can be custom-formulated to customer specifications by extending the performance of the base fluid with additives, such as extreme pressure agents, antiwear agents, and antioxidants.
Nye Synthetic Oil 2001A (Pennzane X2000) is a patented, high-molecular weight saturated hydrocarbon fluid designed for superior lubrication, extremely low outgassing, and additive solubility. Notably, Synthetic Oil 2001A has a vapor pressure comparable to perfluoropolyethers while maintaining the superior optical properties, lubricity, and additive solubility of hydrocarbon. Also available only from Nye are a light viscosity Nye Synthetic Oil 1001A (Pennzane X1000) and a heavier grade, Nye Synthetic Oil 3001A (Pennzane X3000). By using the 3 viscosity grades engineers can accommodate lighter torques or handle higher loads. All Pennzane grades are completely compatible, allowing for custom-blended fluids with viscosities ranging from 8cs to 220cs (at 100°C). Blending Pennzane grades greatly expands the number of applications that can use this unique synthetic hydrocarbon lubricant.
