Case Study: Moisture-Resistant Grease for Dishwasher Gearbox

Background

Consumers rely on their appliances to make life easier. To ensure customer satisfaction, manufacturers must design and build their appliances to operate reliably. A major appliance components manufacturer approached Nye in search of a long-lasting lubricant for a diverter valve within a dishwashing gearbox. The gearbox operated at ambient temperature and the lubricant would be subjected to rotary motion. Due to its location the lubricant needed to resist water and be able to withstand frequent cycling.

Challenge

  • Can Nye provide a long-lasting, plastic-compatible lubricant that can withstand moisture and humidity?

Solution

Rheolube® 368

A medium viscosity, lithium soap thickened, synthetic hydrocarbon grease

  • Good for sliding surfaces
  • Compatible with plastics & elastomers
  • Resists water washout & humidity

Results

Nye sent the manufacturer samples of our leading gear greases which were then tested to determine which grease best met their needs. Ultimately, Rheolube® 368 met all of the customer’s requirements, passes their performance tests and offered extended life protection for the valve without degrading the plastic gears. The customer remains satisfied with the performance of Rheolube® 368.
