Case Study: Grease for Engine Control Actuators

Background

Honeywell Aerospace products and services are found on virtually every commercial, defense and space aircraft. The Aerospace business unit builds aircraft engines, cockpit and cabin electronics, wireless connectivity systems, mechanical components and more. It’s hardware and software solutions create more fuel-efficient aircraft, more direct and on-time flights and safer skies and airports. Honeywell Engine Systems and Accessories needed Nye to produce a lubricant that would meet high temperature and wear requirements for Military F-15 and F-16 Engine Control Actuators in its engine exhaust nozzle.

Challenge

  • Can the lubricant protect bearings and gears from friction and high temperatures?

Solution

Uniflor™ 8991MT

A PTFE thickened, heavy viscosity, completely fluorinated grease.

  • Exceptionally high temperature stability
  • Works well with heavy loaded bearings
  • Resists harsh chemicals and fuels
  • Chemically intert; does not swell, shrink or embrittle rubbers and elastomers, and also does not crack or dissolve plastics
