What's Inside Your Appliance Sample Kit

We hope that you find your Appliance Sample Kit to be a valuable research and development tool. Below is a list of all of the products included in your kit. A small amount of lubricant can create a barrier that protects components from the environment, wear, and ultimately, product failure. Most Nye products are intended for lifetime lubrication, meaning the lubricant is going to last the life of the component it lubricates.

  • Seal & protect from environmental elements
  • Extend operational life of components
  • Reduce friction & wear
  • Improve durability & reliability of mechanisms
  • Increase load-carrying capabilities
  • Control motion

What to Consider When Selecting an Appliance Lubricant

There are many properties in a lubricant that you need to determine before making a choice, such as temperature range, viscosity, compatibility with plastics, color, chemistry, food grade approval, etc. The color of the grease can be an important factor, depending on the location of the application. If the component can be seen by the end-user, most likely a clear grease will be selected. Any of Nye’s lubricants can also be dyed to suit your application needs.

The following applications are supported by the lubricants in your sample kit.

A thin layer of Nye’s connector grease helps improve the reliability of electrical components. Our industry standard connector grease NyoGel® 760G protects connectors against common causes of electrical failure including fretting corrosion, oxidation, moisture intrusion, and high insertion force.

Seals, O-rings and gaskets are often used to prevent leakage. The assembly of these components is often made difficult by ‘stiction,’ friction between the elastomer and the metal or plastic surface. If not properly lubricated this friction can generate squeaks or other noises as they vibrate. A grease reduces friction and other stiction challenges while continuing to fill any gaps between the surface finish and the elastomer. Chemical and water resistance and elastomer compatibility should be considered when selecting a lubricant for these applications.

Gearbox designs aim to increase efficiency by improving power transfer while minimizing noise and heat generation. Plastic housings and gears made of high-performance polymers are enabling lighter and more compact designs whereas metal gears are often used in applications operating under high temperatures and loads. When properly selected, grease can improve the performance and service life of gearboxes by reducing friction and wear, starting/running torque, noise and vibration, and operating temperatures.

Grease for sliding electric switch contacts must have excellent film strength, low and high temperature capability and stay-in-place performance. For the smooth operation of switches, a damping grease is recommended to reduce noise and minimize wear.

Rheolube® 362HT  Up to 10 Amps Current,  Low Contact Force
Rheolube® 368  High Current > 10 Amp, Medium Contact Force

Damping lubricants provide a variety of benefits including minimizing noise and vibration, providing a quality tactile feel, and enabling precision motion control.

Slides and rails do not operate at high enough speeds or loads for a lubricant to form a fluid film that will separate surfaces. Therefore, it is important to select a grease that stays in place and does not rely on film formation to prevent wear.
